Greek Lenten cookies

makes around 50 cookies
Ingredients
½ cup Greek extra virgin olive oil
½ cup white sugar
¾ cup freshly squeezed orange juice
¼ cup Greek ouzo*
2 teaspoons orange zest
500gr (1 pound) self rising flour
½ cup (or more) sesame seeds and 2-3 tablespoons ouzo for sprinkling
Instructions
In a large bowl we mix all the ingredients together, except sesame seeds and the extra ouzo. We do not overmix.
We shape into cookies. We put 2 inches apart on baking sheet. With a pastry brush we glaze the cookies with the rest of the ouzo and we sprinkle with the sesame seeds.
We bake in a preheated 180*C (350*F) oven for about 25’ or until golden.

8 cups flour (نخليه)
- One and a half cups sugar or one cup (less sweet).
- one and a half spoons Mahlab (هذا اللي بجيب الطعم )
- 2 sticks butter
- 5 eggs
- 2 spoons yeast or two small packs.
- 2 cups warm milk
- pinch of salt .
اعجنيه واتركيه ٤ او ٥ ساعات … بعدين ارجعي اعجني مرة ثانية و اتركي ساعة او ساعتين.
Braid it while dipping your fingers in mazola oil … brush with eggs .. sprinkle sesame and bake ….
